Astonishing Ascension: Mulitalo Wins First Mid States Southern Heavyweight Championship By Brian Ferguson

Rising independent pro wrestling star “Astonishing” Austin Mulitalo captured the Mid States Southern Heavyweight Championship after surviving a grueling 20-man battle royal in the main event held this past Saturday, August 9, at the Relics Center in Springfield, MO.

The rules stated that any competitor thrown over the top rope—with both feet landing on the pavement—would be eliminated. The all-out brawl also included a special Southern Rule, where the last two remaining competitors had to win by submission or pinfall.

Adding to the excitement was the return of “The Silverback” Joe Helms after a lengthy hiatus from the promotion. Entering last, Helms received the loudest ovation of the night. His attire paid tribute to the legendary Road Warriors, sporting spiked red-and-black shoulder pads along with his signature red-and-black mask.

The first to be eliminated was “Men with Morals” founder Burt Cameron, followed by his protégé, Trey Lee. A dramatic moment occurred when former tag team partners turned rivals, The Johnny’s—Johnny Lightening and “Johnathan” Dynamite—locked eyes as if ready to clash. Before they could, the remaining wrestlers pounced, tossing both men over the top rope for a double elimination.

When the dust settled, the final two in the ring were “The Space Cowboy” Jason Jones and “Astonishing” Austin Mulitalo. With outside interference from Mid States Heavyweight Champion “Handsome” Scott Hansen and “The Manager of Champions” Stephen E, Mulitalo managed to pin “The Space Cowboy” and claim his first Mid States Southern Heavyweight Championship.

In other news, tension appeared to be brewing between Mulitalo and Stephen E. Earlier in the night, Mulitalo faced Johnny Lightening in a singles match, repeatedly telling Stephen E and Hansen to leave the area and let him handle things alone. Mulitalo seemed poised for a babyface turn, but after heavy persuasion from Stephen E and Hansen, he delivered a low blow to Lightening and was disqualified.

The post-match atmosphere suggested possible cracks forming in the alliance between “Astonishing” Austin Mulitalo, “Handsome” Scott Hansen, and “The Manager of Champions” Stephen E. Could this be the beginning of the end for one of Mid States Wrestling’s most dominant factions? Stay tuned!
