For decades, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) has carried itself as a promotion built on tradition, history, and the prestige of its championships. From Ric Flair to Harley Race to Dusty Rhodes, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship has symbolized excellence in professional wrestling. Yet, in 2025, fans have noticed a puzzling disconnect: the NWA’s official website and Roku channel are not recognizing or featuring the company’s current champions.

The Silence on Titleholders

While the NWA continues to run shows and crown champions, fans searching the official website or streaming platform have found outdated information. Current champions, some of whom are central to weekly storylines, are absent from roster and title listings. This has raised concerns not only among viewers but also within the wrestling community.

Possible Reasons Behind the Omission

There are a few possible explanations:

  1. Technical and Administrative IssuesThe NWA has transitioned much of its media presence to streaming platforms and digital content. Updating champion listings and graphics may have been slowed by backend issues or staffing changes, leading to gaps in communication.

  2. Creative Direction and RebrandingThe NWA has undergone creative shifts under Billy Corgan’s leadership, with a focus on expanding visibility and modernizing presentation. It’s possible the company is revamping how champions are presented and holding back updates until a full relaunch of its digital platforms is ready.

  3. Licensing or Media Rights ComplicationsBecause the Roku program syndicates content across different platforms, there may be legal or licensing reasons that prevent real-time updates to champion listings, especially if older footage is being prioritized for distribution.

  4. Fan Engagement StrategySome speculate that the lack of updates could be intentional, designed to drive fans toward live events, social media, and YouTube streams where champions are regularly featured. By creating scarcity in “official” listings, the NWA might be trying to increase demand for real-time engagement.

 Impact on Fans and Wrestlers

The lack of recognition can be frustrating for loyal NWA followers. Titles are the lifeblood of wrestling storytelling, and without visible acknowledgment of current champions, both fans and wrestlers lose a vital connection to the promotion’s identity. For performers carrying the belts, not being officially recognized diminishes the prestige of their reigns and undermines the credibility of the championships themselves.

The Need for Consistency

In today’s wrestling landscape, consistency is everything. Promotions like WWE, AEW, and Impact Wrestling make sure their champions are prominently displayed on websites, apps, and broadcasts. For the NWA to remain competitive and retain fan loyalty, it must ensure its titleholders are celebrated and visible across all platforms.

Looking Ahead

Whether the issue is technical, strategic, or simply an oversight, fans are hopeful that the NWA will correct the disconnect soon. The championships are the backbone of the promotion, and their absence from official recognition sends the wrong message about their importance.

If the NWA wants to honor its past while building a future, it needs to remember that the credibility of its championships—and the wrestlers who hold them—must always come first.
